West Virginia University Athletics said the No. 9 Mountaineers won the Nuttycombe Invitational women’s 6,000-meter championship race Friday, Oct. 9, in Madison, Wisconsin, scoring 66 points.

WVU’s five scoring runners all finished in the top 25, the announcement said. The team finished 45 points ahead of runner-up No. 13 Florida, which scored 111. No. 3 Northern Arizona placed third with 130 points, followed by No. 4 New Mexico with 157 and No. 16 Colorado with 166.

Joy Naukot led West Virginia, finishing fifth in 19:22.6, according to the announcement. Mercy Kinyanjui was sixth in 19:23.3, Sheila Chepkirui 11th in 19:26.3, Naomi Kemboi 19th in 19:40.5 and Lexi Lamb 25th in 19:47.0. Emily Bryce finished 44th in 20:13.4, and Anastasia Chepkorir placed 112th in 20:58.0, the announcement said.

In the women’s 6,000-meter B race, Chiara Judis finished fourth for WVU in 20:40.8, while Chelsea Chepkemboi placed 41st in 21:43.6 and Alyssa Sauro was 57th in 22:02.1, according to the announcement.
