Amendment 1Amendment 1: Citizenship Requirement to Vote in West Virginia Elections Amendment
Today, West Virginia’s constitution says who may vote but does not specifically say that a voter must be a U.S. citizen. This amendment would say that only U.S. citizens who are West Virginia citizens may vote in state elections. Other voting rules in the constitution would remain.
- If Yes wins
- A yes vote means the state constitution would say that only U.S. citizens who are West Virginia citizens may vote in state elections.
- If No wins
- A no vote means the proposed change to the state constitution would not take effect.
- How it got on the ballot: Referred to voters by the West Virginia Legislature through Senate Joint Resolution 9.
